Vet an SEO Consultant Before Hiring: 5 Questions to Ask
Knowing how to vet an SEO consultant before you sign a contract saves real money and time. I regularly meet business owners who have already been burned once by an SEO agency before they come to me, usually after paying for months of work with nothing meaningful to show for it. A few honest questions upfront can prevent a lot of that.

Ask for specific, verifiable examples
A genuine consultant should be able to show you real client results, ideally ones you can verify yourself, rather than vague claims or screenshots that cannot be checked against an actual live website.
Ask how they access your Google Search Console
You should always have direct access to your own Google Search Console and Analytics accounts. If a consultant insists on keeping this access exclusively in their own dashboard where you cannot independently verify anything, that is worth questioning.
Ask specifically about their link building methods
A vague answer about backlinks, without any real explanation of where those links actually come from, is a warning sign. Automated or bulk link building can put your site at real risk of a Google penalty, sometimes long after the consultant has moved on.
A fifth question worth asking
Ask directly whether they have worked with a business in your specific town or district before, not just your province or country. Knowing how to vet an SEO consultant properly means checking for genuine local familiarity, not just a general Pakistan-wide claim. An agency that has never worked outside Lahore or Karachi will often apply the same generic playbook to a smaller market like Attock or Rawalpindi, which rarely performs as well as a strategy built around that market specifically.
Ask about realistic timelines
Anyone promising page one rankings within a few weeks is not being honest with you. Real, sustainable SEO results typically take a few months to show up meaningfully, and a consultant who sets that expectation clearly upfront is usually being straightforward with you.
